brook trout Fly Fishing .?
i am going to try fly fishing shenandoah national park in virginia. i hear the park has awesome brook Trout Fishing. i hear that you have to be very stealthy to get to where the trout are holding. is this true? what type of flys will work for these trout and how big will these fish get.
Your best option would be gain some local advice, i could sit here for days and type combinations of flies, lines to fish them on, leaders, hook sizes, indicators etc.
All i will say is ask anyone else who is fishing there, they should tell you whats been fishing and what they have been feeding on. You would probably benefit from a 5wt rod with a long leader, either co-polymer or fluoro. An imitative approach is always best on these small brooks, with nymphs and dries working well.
You will have to have some stealth as opposed to just jumping in and splashing around in the water, don't forget you will need permission to fish the brooks and also a license will be required.
