How high can helicopters fly?

In the Tom Hanks Movies “Angels and…” the priest flies a helicopter straight up. I was wondering how high UP a helicopter can fly?

The pilot in angles and demons, at the rate of climb shown, couldn’t have gotten much over 6-7 thousand feet in that amount of time. Nothing extraordinary.
