What are Jehovah Witness's view on blasphemy of holy spirit?
Matt (NWT version) 31 “On this account I say to YOU, Every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come.
How does JWs explain this verse?
By the way, JWs don't treat holy spirit as person
Jesus himself mentioned the "unforgivable sin".
.. ..(Matthew 12:31-32) Every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come.
It seems that 'speaking against the spirit' must include stubbornly refusing to credit to the holy spirit that which is plainly done by its action, or falsely attributing to the holy spirit something contrary to its actions.
.. ..(Matthew 12:24-28) Pharisees said: “This fellow does not expel the demons except by means of Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.” ...[Jesus said] if it is by means of God’s spirit that I expel the demons, the kingdom of God has really overtaken you.
It also seems possible that sinning against the spirit may include stubbornly refusing to repent one's sins, despite a full knowledge of the will of God and Christ.
.. ..(Hebrews 10:26-27) For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, but there is a certain fearful expectation of judgment
The Bible certainly does not teach that the holy spirit is a person. The Bible quite plainly teaches that the holy spirit can be thought of as an appendage of Jehovah God. The Scriptures quite plainly equate the holy spirit with "God's finger"! Here are the two parallel accounts describing the identical event:
.. ..(Luke 11:20) If it is by means of God's finger I expel the demons, the kingdom of God has really overtaken you.
.. ..(Matthew 12:28) If it is by means of God’s spirit that I expel the demons, the kingdom of God has really overtaken you.
Thus, the holy spirit must be understood as the means by which Almighty God accomplishes his will and communicates with humankind. Just as a human's tongue is not itself a person, so too God's finger is not a person either.
