What did Miners Eat in the 1800's?
I'm doing a project and i'm wondering wut types of food miners ate. Don't say flour and dried friuts becuz i already no that.
Thankyou my group and I figured out what we were going to bring. [bread and butter and apple juice]

Now on to your question.
Working class diets of the 19th century are guided by three primary factors, availability, preservation and cost.
There was no refrigeration, so foods would be dried, pickled, cured or sugar preserved (jellied), or fat preserved.
Canning did exist (invented circa 1815) but wasn't widely available until the 1870's
Therefore one would be eating, dried meats (jerky), beans, grains, fruit preserves, pickled vegetables, eggs, bread, milk, cheese. MEats would be mostly fowl, lamb, mutton, and game.
Fresh meats, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit would only be available when they were in season.
To get a sense of their diet. Go to a grocery store. going through it, ignore anything in the freezer section, anything that is pre-prepared, any fruit or vegetable that is either out of season, or from a region other than where you live, anything that won't keep past a few days, and you will get a sense of the diet
