Line Spool
How often should I replace my Line?
I spool with 8 pound, and more recently 14 pound flouro, by Stren. I'm a pretty frequent fisher and I use a spinner. How often should I replace it?
Also, My other question hasn't been answered yet, so I'll ask again here. If your rod and reel are rated for 12 pound line, will it kill them if I spool with 14 pound line?
at LEAST yearly. whether you use it or not.
if it is regularly used, strip of a few feet after each trip or two (feel the line for nicks or rough spots and cut it above that. when the line on your spool decreases by 25% or when it begins to affect casting, replace it.
part two:
if a rod is rated say, 6 to 12lb line (there are usually 2 numbers), l use a line midway. like either 8 or 10 on that one, without going beyond or even to those numbers. if l need a heavier line, l simply use a rod a little heavier, rated for that line. why take a chance, and it won't cast as well with that heavier line anyway.
