Would CM Punk have been successful with his heel turn without Jeff Hardy or was Jeff perfect for the turn?
I just found this thought interesting since I was thinking about Punk's heel turn just now. Detailed thoughts, opinions and facts appreciated.
That's a really interesting question.
I see where your going with this, as in Jeff hardy was the only man that could suit the "Straight Edge" heel persona. Well, I think that if Hardy wasn't there than WWE would've found a different gimmick to help aid CM Punk's heel turn.
Punk used to be a great heel back in his ROH days, this isn't the first time that he's done the heel thing. I'm sure you know that already, but I guess what I'm trying to say is WWE didn't have to use the "straight edge" gimmick even though that was his previous gimmick to turn him heel.
Having Jeff around to base the heel turn off of was perfect. It had every thing needed for a successful heel turn.

CM Punk's heel turn may not have gone so well if it was against any one else on the Smackdown roster. Previously, Jeff was the most loved character on the show, he had the most fans and got the biggest pop from the crowd. It was genius and only right to have Punk turn on Jeff. Althought I personally thought that the heel turn was late, and the whole thing was drawn out too long overall it was successful.
